Do not attempt garage door spring, cable or drum work. A torsion spring stores enough energy to break bones or kill, and it does not need to be moving to do it. A door with a failed spring can weigh 150 to 400 pounds with nothing holding it. Everything else on this site you may reasonably check yourself. That, you should not.

What you can safely check
Where a page suggests something you can do yourself, it is deliberately limited to things that carry no stored energy:
- Wiping dust from photo-eye lenses and checking the indicator lights
- Looking at the spring above the door to see whether the coil has a visible gap
- Checking whether the opener is in manual release
- Clearing grit from the tracks with a dry cloth
- Photographing storm damage before anyone touches it
Anything involving springs, lift cables, cable drums or the bottom bracket is outside that list, permanently.
Prices and estimates
This site does not publish fixed prices. What a repair costs depends on which component failed, the size and weight of the door, and parts availability. Any figure discussed on the phone is an estimate from your description and is confirmed on site before work begins.
Insurance and claims
Several pages discuss hail, wind and storm damage and how claims usually work in this area. That is general observation from doing the repairs, not insurance advice. Coverage, deductibles and deadlines are between you and your insurer, and you should speak to them or a licensed adjuster before relying on anything here.

A Class D licence from the Texas Department of Public Safety is required for installing, maintaining or repairing electronic access control devices and operators.
